Feelings and perceptions are state-dependent.
I frequently speak to people who say, ‘I’m not looking forward to this week’s measurements, I feel fat this week, I don’t think I’ve changed at all, maybe even gained’.
This statement seems to have very little impact on the measurements one way or the other.
However, I always follow the statement with a question: I’m so sorry to hear that… Have you had a good week?
Not once in ten years has a single person who uttered the previous statement ever said;‘yes, actually, apart from feeling a bit fat I’ve had an awesome week’.
Likewise, in 10 years of work, I have never had clients say; I had a really brilliant week, but I’m sure I’ve gained a little for the indulgence…
My point is this: your mood is directly related to your self-image.
Weight gain is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Spend too long being stressed and miserable and thinking of yourself as fat, and you will eventually conform to your own belief that you are fat. Want to lose weight? cut it of at the source. Don’t manage the flood; cut off the water supply.
Locate what makes you miserable and cut it out of your life or change how you manage it.
